The Problem with 20-minute Eye Tests

The demand for eye care is on the rise. With an ageing population in need of more personalised care and with more of us spending time on computers, phones and tablets, people suffering from myopia and age-related macular degeneration is rapidly increasing.

For most ‘big-name’ optometry clinics, a standard eye test lasts around 15-20 minutes.  Completing a comprehensive eye exam in 20 minutes in our opinion is rushed and a rushed eye exam can do more harm that good for your eyes.

An eye exam explores all aspects of your eye health, not just your vision. As optometrists we have a rare opportunity to examine your eyes in microscopic detail. An eye exam can pick up an array health concerns such as diabetes, glaucoma, infections, high blood pressure, arthritis, cataracts, autoimmune disorders, high cholesterol and even thyroid disease.

Whether it is for a child, a healthy young adult or someone 50+, an eye test is an important exam that should never be rushed or condensed into a 20-minute period, as eye exams are also about eye health.  Therefore, in order to provide you the best in patient care, at Core Optique our eye exams last around 45 minutes and are extremely comprehensive. The more regularly you have an exam, the more likely for early detection of any issues allowing us to monitor and treat the condition or refer you to a specialist.

At Core Optique, we have created a clinic that integrates a holistic approach to eye health. We are passionate about patient care and providing you with an experience that makes getting your eyes tested both informative and enjoyable.

If you have experienced one of these ‘in and out’ eye tests, or if you want to confirm your current prescription is correct, or if you simply want to know about the health of your eyes, contact us today on (02) 8593-7156.
